2012 Woodland Park Brain Bowl & Spelling Bee

Friday, January 27, 2012
The WOODLAND PARK Brain Bowl/Spelling Bee: In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, members of the WoodlandPark Unit represented the Boys & Girls Club of Alachua County in the 2012 Black History Cultural Brain Bowl and Spelling Bee on January 12. This competition is held annually at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Multipurpose Center where youth from organizations throughout the community prepare for the competition by learning about historical events and key leaders throughout black history.

The Woodland Park Unit held multiple mock spelling bees and brain bowls as a way to prepare for the competition as well as teach other Boys & Girls Club members about black history. It was an enlightening experience for our members to reflect on Dr. King’s dream and apply their new found knowledge to the competition. Additionally, we were proud to see that The Boys & Girls Club had the most participants out of any other local agency/organization in the Spelling Bee and Brain Bowl competition.
