BOYS & GIRLS CLUB OF ALACHUA COUNTY CLIMBS ABOARD THE MOVIE EXPRESS THIS SUMMER
Gainesville, FloridaJune 22, 2011,– Summer is here again and parents want their kids active, engaged and entertained. With record summer heat, they also want some relief in a cool and comfortable place. Thanks to the partnership between Regal Entertainment Group and Boys & Girls Clubs of America, members of Boys & Girls Club of Alachua County will enjoy the movies with the Summer Movie Express. Regal Entertainment Group is providing the Club with a grant to help cover expenses like transportation and tickets.
“Our Boys & Girls Club members are thrilled to participate in Regal Entertainment Group’s Summer Movie Express,” said Keith Blanchard of Boys & Girls Club of Alachua County. “The number of youth we serve often doubles in the summer months; therefore we’re always grateful for opportunities that offer fun and engaging activities for our young people. Most importantly, we can leverage this experience to stretch their imagination, while opening doors to a world of exploration and excitement.”
Boys & Girls Club of Alachua Countyshares the joy at Regal Cinema’s Gainesville Cinema Stadium 14 locatedat 3101 SW 35th Blvd., Gainesville FL 32608, where Club members add fun at the movies to their summer activity list.
“Regal Entertainment Group is extremely proud of our relationship with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and we are pleased to continue offering resources for local Clubs to take their members to movies at our theatres,” said Dick Westerling, senior vice president marketing and advertising for Regal Entertainment Group. “Since 2004, our theatres across the country have worked closely with local Boys & Girls Clubs to coordinate and customize this experience for each community.”
At Regal's Summer Movie Express, moviegoers of all ages can climb aboard to enjoy a great selection of films. During this 9-week festival, select Regal Cinemas, United Artists and Edwards Theatres will offer G or PG rated movies for only a dollar on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:00am.
“The partnership between Regal Group and the Boys & Girls Club aligns with many of our summer initiatives,” said Freddy Williams, Area Director of the Boys & Girls Club of Alachua County. “Our extended hours and increased interaction with our youth during summer months yield more substantive and creative programming.” Youth from the Woodland Park and Eastwood Meadows Boys & Girls Clubs will not only view family friendly movies, but will be guided on personal tours of the theater, including the movie projection room. Alicia Alderson, Assistant Manager of Regal Cinemas in Gainesville Florida said, “the youth from the Boys & Girls Club will have a unique opportunity as our Gainesville location still shows both 35mm film and newer digital films. 35mm film will soon be obsolete, so children will see something that will be in history books in the near future.” Regal will play a role in the career development program at the Boys & Girls Club. “High school age students will shadow Regal employees and serve as volunteers to gain soft and employability skills to help advance their careers while having fun,” said Williams. “The exposure from Regal is creative yet informative. It is one of many programs at the Boys & Girls Club that ensures that our youth are better equipped to graduate from high school on time, ready for a post-secondary education and a 21st-century career.”
